Mrs. W.H. Shearer Passes:
Mrs. W.H.Shearer passed away in her home Thursday evening, October 7, 1937,
at six o'clock following an illness of several weeks. She was 80 years and 5
months old.
Alice Morrison was born in Hopkinton, Delaware County, Iowa June 7, 1857,
where she grew up to womanhood. On March 11, 1879 she was united in marriage
to W.H.Shearer and soon after moved to Cedar county, Nebraska where they made
their home until 1914 when they came to Ree Heights, S.D.
Becoming a christian at an early age she spent her life in working for
Christ, in the Sunday School, Missionary Society, and church. Previous to
coming to Ree Heights, she was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Laurel,
Nebraska, being a charter member of that organization.
She leaves to mourn her passing five daughters; Mrs. Flo Flint, Mrs. Elza
Scott, Mrs. Nettie Gardner all of Ree Heights, S.D., Mrs. Gertrude Eakin of
Bangkok, Siam, and Mrs. Lela Knox of Prea, Siam; three sisters, three brothers,
17 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A son Joseph, the first born,
died when two years of age. Her husband preceded her in death eight years ago.
Those from out of town attending the funeral her three brothers, Ren
Morrison, Lincoln, Neb., Howard Morrison, Coleridge, Neb., Robert Morrison,
Miller, S.D., Mrs. Robert Morrison of Miller, S.D., Mrs.Laura Wisdom, Fremont,
Neb., a sister-in-law Mrs. Howard Morrison, Mrs. George Morton, a niece, of
Hartington, Neb., Mrs. Lloyd Hole and three children of Wood, S.D., Margaret
Scott and Howard Flint who are attending Yankton college.
